Reactive barriers and containment

These are generally civil engineering methods, with some ‘clever' chemical aspects, which are used to either isolate/contain soil and water contamination, or (in the case of permeable barriers) treat the groundwater as it passes through the barrier and rendering it less contaminated, if not ‘cleansed' totally.

These can combine several biological, chemical and physical processes, to enhance ‘natural' degradation.
