Brownfield Land

Land that has been previously developed for use (generally in an urban environment). Previously-developed land (PDL) is more specifically defined (PPS3) by the UK Government as ‘land that is or was occupied by a permanent structure (excluding agricultural or forestry buildings), and associated fixed surface infrastructure'.

This definition covers the curtilage of the development and includes land used for mineral extraction and waste disposal, where provision for restoration has not been made through development control.
