Using the Brownfield Briefing website

We hope that this website provides all the brownfield and contaminated land content you desire. However, to help make it easier to use, we have put together these simple instructions and frequently asked questions (FAQs).

How to log in (for registered users)

On the home page of www.brownfieldbriefing.com, click the orange ‘Login' text on the top right hand side of the page (just above the search box). This will take you to a screen with the box pictured below.

Simply enter the username and password you were given when you registered on the website, and click ‘login'.

If you are a current subscriber you should now be able to read all articles in full and download supplements and back issues.

If you are registered but do not currently subscribe, you will be able to comment on the free for all articles but won't have access to the restricted (‘padlocked') items.

Forgotten your login details

To keep your information safe, we at Brownfield Briefing can never see your password. This means that we are unable to tell you what it is if you forget it, so you will need to reset it by following these three steps:

1) Click the right hand tab on the login page marked ‘Request new password', or click here.

2) Next enter the username or email address that you registered with, click the ‘E-mail new password' button and wait for the email with your new password in.

3) Please note that for your own security and convenience, we recommend that once you have successfully logged in with your new password you change it to something else.

Tip: if you were registered before the new website launched in spring 2009, you would have been given new login details from us. Your username will generally be your full name as you would usually write it, with capital letters and spaces, eg Joe Brownfield.

How to register (for subscribers)

If you have a new or existing subscription to Brownfield Briefing you are entitled to access all the exclusive news, past supplements, back issues and more on this website - all you need to do is register. To register, follow these steps:

1) On www.brownfieldbriefing.com, click the orange ‘Register' text on the top right hand side of the page (just above the search box) or click here.

2) This will present you with a form to fill in with your details, such as your name and address. The fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory. It is important that you take a moment to ensure the information you provide here is accurate and complete, as it must match up with your subscription details in order for the system to process your registration fully.

On this form you are asked to create a username and password. Please make this something memorable yet secure, and make a note of it in a secure place if necessary, as you will need this information each time you log in to the website.

3) Read through the terms & conditions at the bottom of the form, tick ‘accept' and click the button marked ‘Create new account' to submit your registration.

Your registration make take a few hours to be processed, and will only be processed within normal working hours (ie weekdays between 9am and 5pm). We thank you for your patience while we complete this process, during which time you may not yet have subscriber access. You are also asked to log out and log in again in order for the changes to take effect.

How to register (for non-subscribers)

If you do not subscribe to Brownfield Briefing you may still register on this website in order to post comments on the free-for-all articles and to receive free weekly e-bulletins - an email digest alerting you to the latest content.

What is my password?

Why do some articles have padlocks beside them?

Some content on this website is available exclusively to current subscribers. Articles which have padlock pictures beside them may only be read in full if you are a current subscriber and logged in. To subscribe, click here. If you are a subscriber but are having trouble logging in, please consult the other sections on this page or contact us.

What is my colleague's password?

According to the terms of copyright for Brownfield Briefing it is illegal for more than one person to login to this website on the same single subscription (see the full terms & conditions here). Subscribers should never give out their login details to others.

If you would like to access the website, please subscribe or take out a free trial if you have not had one recently.

If several people in one company would like to read Brownfield Briefing and access the website, it may be more cost-effective to take out a company subscription (known as a site licence).

If a colleague has left your company and you wish to transfer their subscription over to you, please contact us to arrange this.

Why is it asking me to log in again?

The Brownfield Briefing website keeps users logged in for up to 115 days, as long as cookies are enabled on your internet browser. However, users will only stay logged in as long as they have an "active session". This means that if you don't use the website for 56 hours or more then you will have to log in again next time.

I have two accounts but neither works

If you have two usernames registered to the same email address this is likely to cause problems with our database and result in being unable to view subscriber content. To fix this problem, we may need to delete one or both of your accounts. Please contact us and we will help to fix the problem.
