Jon Parry is a principal at SLR Consulting and has over 11 years of experience in site investigation and quantitative risk assessment.
Mr Parry specialises in controlled waters and human health risk assessment, contaminant fate and transport modelling and hydro-geological characterisation. He has particular experience of petroleum hydrocarbon assessment, having worked for most of the major UK retail petroleum sector clients, and has specialised in the assessment of hydrocarbon vapour risks for the last five years, with a focus on soil vapour sampling.
He will be speaking at Brownfield Briefing's Ground Gas 2009 conference on 18 November, so we caught up with him for 60 seconds ahead of the event.
1. What do you predict will be major brownfield issues in 2020?
Based on the loss of numbers and current recruitment in the sector during the recession, having enough appropriately experienced professionals in the industry in 10 years time could be a challenge.
2. If you could choose one regeneration project that you could magically complete right now, which would it be and why?
It would be great to complete one of the eco town projects to demonstrate how far we can take sustainable development.
3. What do you think are the three biggest brownfield developments/achievements from this year?
The VOCs Handbook has certainly been a welcome arrival this year, the Corby and St Leonards Cases could have massive implications to the industry, and the removal of the landfill tax exemption has made landfill alternatives more attractive.
4. If you could change one piece of legislation/regulation what would it be and why?
