Wolverhampton City Council has awarded a £14.9m contract to Shepherd Construction to build the new Bilston Leisure Centre, the first permanent building on the £175m Bilston urban village project.
The 40ha brownfield development aims to create a new urban community, with homes, employment, a school, health care and parkland. "This will be a state-of-the-art leisure facility, and we have worked hard to ensure that the development will meet the needs and aspirations of the whole community," said cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise Paddy Bradley.
"It will also form an integral part of the new Bilston Urban Village which is one of the largest regeneration projects in the Black Country."
The new centre will have an eight-lane 25m swimming pool, learner pool, health and fitness suite, squash courts, sports hall, café and meeting room.
