The North West Development Agency has agreed to invest £3.9m to support land remediation and public realm improvements on a 14ha stretch of New Brighton sea front to prepare it for new retail and leisure facilities.
The money is intended to support phase 2 of Wirral Council and Neptune Development's Brand New Brighton scheme which should see 20,667m² of floorspace as well as a boating lake, car parking, promenade and other improvements.
"Phase 1 has delivered real benefits to the town already via the Floral Pavilion and I'm looking forward to Phase 2 and the exciting opportunities it will bring," said Council leader Steve Foulkes.
"At a time of such economic uncertainty it is also a testimony to the hard work undertaken by both Council officers and members that we are continuing to deliver on the objectives set by Wirral's investment strategy."
Phase 1 inlcuded a floral pavillion and commercial, retail and leisure uses.
"Brand New Brighton is the largest single transformational project in the wider Mersey Waterfront Regional Park initiative and a significant signature project for the Liverpool city-region," said NWDA chief executive Steve Broomhead.
