The BS 10175:2011 Investigation of Potentially Contaminated Sites - Code of Practice has now been published and is available from the BSI Shop.
The revised code of practice gives recommendations and guidance for risk-based investigation of land potentially contaminated with man-made contaminants or naturally hazardous substances.
It covers:-
- setting the objectives of an investigation;
- developing a strategy for the investigation;
- designing the different phases of the investigation;
- sampling and field testing;
- laboratory analysis;
- reporting.
It does not include:-
- guidance on certain constraints or problems that can affect a site, such as geotechnical aspects (which are covered by BS 5930);
- guidance on legal aspects, including the need for licences and permits, etc.;
- detailed guidance for the investigation and assessment of radioactively contaminated sites;
- procedures for the formal assessment of the potential risks posed by land potentially affected by contamination;
- guidance on sampling from stockpiles.
Copies are available at a reduced price to local authority or Environment Agency employees.
