Craigavon case dropped

Northern Ireland environment minister Edwin Poots has welcomed the decision by mall owner Irwin Glenbank of its application for judicial review with which it had hoped to block two retail planning consents.

It challenged the Craigavon town centre boundaries plan and planning consent for an extension of the Rushmere shopping centre and development of a new Tesco.

Mr Poots said it was good news for Craigavon and a victory for common sense.

"It will provide greater confidence for the development industry in the area and has lifted the uncertainty for some major schemes - particularly the planning approval granted for a new Tesco store and the planned expansion at Rushmere Shopping Centre," he said.

"I hope these developments will now proceed quickly giving a much needed boost to local employment and the economy of the Craigavon, Portadown and Lurgan areas."
