Derbyshire County Council has been relieved that its testing for methane in 130 homes in Barrow Hill, Staveley, has proved entirely negative.
The homes - and a school - adjoin a landfill site closed in 1990 and concern was raised after methane production increased to the point where controlled burning was necessary.
The landfill gas was used by a local brickworks until 1994 but responsibility then passed to the local authority.
The Council says it will continue to monitor the situation.
