Bishopbriggs remediation nearly complete

IKM Consulting says it is near to completing remediation at a major 22ha former Shell fuel storage site in Bishopbriggs which closed in 1995.

The 18-month project included site investigation with trial pits, boreholes, chemical testing, on-site testing and risk assessment as well as design and supervision of bioremediation of 44,000m³ of hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.

"This project is one of the biggest of its kind ever carried out in Scotland and presented a variety of different challenges," said IKM environmental director Alistair Kean. "It's particularly good news that such a significant land restoration project is progressing at what is clearly a difficult time in the private finance sector."

The work was commissioned by Westerhill Developments which is currently master planning a £60m development with main contractor Luddon Construction undertaking infrastructure and construction work over a two-year period.

IKM has recently announced major expansion through a link-up with Edinburgh-based building service specialists Greenroom, formerly a division of architects RMJM Scotland.
