Infrastructure levy pilot proposals invited

DCLG has invited councils to apply for support available for eight authorities to pilot the community infrastructure levy.

The Planning Advisory Service will run the Front Runners project to give each of the eight an introductory workshop and one support meeting.

There would also be advisory visits from the Planning Inspectorate for councils close to publishing preliminary draft charging schedules by March this year, when the project will end.

There might be a further round of pilots in the new financial year. Successful councils would be expected to implement the levy as soon as possible.

They would need to intend to submit their charging schedule by the autumn, have a good planning competence record and have buy-in from corporate, finance and planning functions within their authority.

Applications must be made by 14 January.
