Merseytram funding call

Liverpool City Council has voted unanimously to continue backing the Merseytram proposal and for it to become a regional transport priority scheme.

The Council wants the £450m Liverpool-Kirkby first line to be included in the regional funding allocation at the next opportunity.

The Council believes it should replace the £200m port access road in the allocation as it has been delayed.

But the move lacks support from the Liverpool City Region "super cabinet" which decided not to change the RFA last month.

But the road scheme is unlikely to go ahead before 2018 when the current tranche runs out.
