The Government does not believe there is a need to modify any formal guidance or regulations in the light of hydraulic fracturing for shale gas and coal bed methane, environment minister Richard Benyon told Huw Irranca-Davies in a Commons written answer.
A recent Tyndall Centre report warned the practice threatens serious contamination of land and ground and surface water, but Mr Benyon said the Environment Agency is operating a robust regulatory regime in England and Wales to ensure environmental risks from the practice are controlled, backed by guidance.
But he promised the need for regulations would be kept under review.
