Burning demolition and construction waste on moorland adjacent to a housing development has brought Calmax Construction a £10,000 fine at Stornoway Sheriff Court.
A Scottish Environment Protection Agency officer saw a column of smoke beside the Blackwater development at Newmarket and found a hole in the moorland containing pipes, cables, plastics, floor tiles, wood, a tyre, rubble and a gas tank.
