The New Swindon Company is to lose its chief executive Peter James as Swindon Borough Council reviews its regeneration plans and refocuses the urban regeneration company's efforts on delivery.

Cabinet member for culture, regeneration and economic development Phil Young announced the review and said that, as part of these developments, the Company chief executive would be stepping down.

"It has been a pleasure to be part of such an exciting period for Swindon and with major investment secured for the town centre I believe there is a bright future," said Mr James.

"There has been lots of discussion with partners about how we develop our approach to regeneration and it feels like the right time to step aside and let the next chapter of Swindon's regeneration begin."

Cllr Young said a great deal of long-term investment had been secured for the town centre despite the recession and there is a need to hold on to the long-term vision.

"We must balance this though with delivering tangible regeneration as quickly as possible so that local people and businesses feel a renewed sense of confidence in the town," he said.

"I will be asking all involved to revisit our plans and focus our efforts on delivery."

He thanked Mr James for his efforts over three-and-a-half years and wished him well for the future.
