The partners in the North Bank of the Tyne project have set out a strategic framework for development of 600ha of land between Walker and Bull Ring Dock in North Shields.
The plan, prepared for North Tyneside Council, Newcastle City Council and the Homes & Communities Agency by GVA Grimley, includes proposals for individual sites where employment including marine, renewable energy and enterprise businesses can be encouraged in the riverside corridor.
They include the former Swan Hunter site as well as developments in the centre of Wallsend.
"The partnership has a tremendous opportunity to now work together to implement the strategic framework plan over the next 15-20 years and deliver a rebirth of the North Bank of the Tyne to drive forward the borough and region's economic success," said North Tyneside cabinet member for regeneration Jon Jo MacNamara.
Extensive consultations on the plan revealed that land contamination and mineshafts are seen as key challenges to be financed and overcome.
