The Forestry Commission estimates that planting a tree on an urban site in London under its London Trees and Woodlands Grant Scheme costs between £250 for planting in a grass verge to £450 for planting in a paved area.
In a Commons written answer to Stewart Jackson, environment minister Huw Irranca-Davies said protective guarding could add £130 to that while maintaining a tree for the first three years, which includes watering, general maintenance and formative pruning is estimated to cost £300.
