The Government is absolutely committed to abolishing regional strategies and regional housing targets and is keen to do so in advance of legislation, planning minister Robert Neill told the Commons in a series of written answers.
He said communities secretary Eric Pickles has already written to local authorities to inform them this is a material consideration in planning terms.
A more detailed planning statement, including addressing revision of local development frameworks, will be published in due course.
"We are keen to move in advance of legislation and are currently considering revoking regional strategies ahead of taking legislation through Parliament," he said.
"We will make a statement in due course."
