North Lincolnshire Council has begun work on demolishing the former Club 2000 nightclub in Scunthorpe to make way for a large event space.
The Council bought the empty building with Yorkshire Forward financial support as part of its plans for the town centre and once it is demolished the area will be block paved to match the rest of the square.
"It is essential that we demolish the former nightclub to make way for future investment," said Council leader Mark Kirk.
"Already we are seeing the likes of Primark locate to a prime town centre site. The demolition of the former night club will help pave the way for further investment. The large open event space in Church Square is just a short walk from The Foundry and Parishes shopping centres and all the other shops. And we are looking to create a programme of events and activities throughout the year that will attract local people and visitors to the town centre and shop."
