Small fine for fly tipping

Paisley Sheriff Court has fined George Hunter (Demolishers) £1,500 after a large quantity of demolition waste - including waste from a nursing home it was demolishing - was illegally tipped and partly burned at Redless Quarry in Blantyre.

The company was fined for failing to secure the transfer of waste to an authorized person and failing to transfer a written description of the waste.

"The estimated cost for the clean up at Redlees Quarry is estimated to be between £40,000 and £60,000 and it is likely that South Lanarkshire Council, as land owner, will have to foot the bill for this," said Scottish Environment Protection Agency investigating officer Colin Morrow.
