North Tyneside Council has confirmed that Robertson North East will be the preferred bidder for redevelopment of the Spanish City site in Whitley Bay.
The development includes an hotel, care home and flats, together with new public space and a family entertainment and cultural centre in the Dome.
"A tremendous amount of work has been invested over those years to ensure both the iconic dome was rescued for future generations, and that the wider site is developed as an asset for residents, visitors and the borough's economy," said North Tyneside mayor Linda Arkley.
"We will now work with the preferred bidder to ensure that this can be delivered and we will provide an opportunity for the public to find out more about the details of the scheme at a meeting of the Area Forum in the near future."
The scheme still has to go through the planning process.
