Wales' environment and sustainable development minister John Griffiths has told Welsh planners that planning for economic development must be improved and a revised technical advice note on the subject will be consulted on later this year.
He told the annual Wales planning conference that the results of a research study into how planning could help deliver economic development had identified improvements in a number of areas and the Welsh Government is accepting the recommendations in full.
These include:-
- refreshed policy including the new TAN;
- a central economic information resource to inform local plans and development decisions;
- closer working between local planning and economic development functions and greater economic input into local plans;
- more business support for planning;
- a new strategic planning tier above local authority level.
"I will discuss with cabinet colleagues how we take forward the recommendations," he said.
"In implementing the report, planning will do more to support economic growth and jobs by making Wales a better place to do business."
