Copeland Borough Council has commissioned White Young Green to compile a technical appraisal of the Pow Beck Valley site in Whitehaven prior to submission of a planning application for an £11m sports stadium.
The stadium is intended to accommodate football, rugby and, possibly, indoor tennis.
"As a multi-skilled consultant, we will be drawing on our expertise from across the business to look at issues such as land suitability, planning, transport and access for this proposed stadium," said WYG Engineering regional director John Kipling.
It is hoped to start work on construction in the spring of next year.
