The chairman of the World Health Organisation's international radon project, Professor William J Angell, has been announced as a keynote speaker at Brownfield Briefing's ground gas 2009 conference in November.
Professor Angell, who is a professor at the University of Minnesota and president of the American Association of Radon Scientists, will speak about the WHO international radon project, a scheme to reduce lung cancer risk around the world. He will also speak about indoor radon risks in context, the project's key messages, current exposure guidelines, trends and implications and challenges and opportunities of the future.
Professor Angell is an internationally well-known speaker, and in 1992 won the US Environmental Protection Agency Exceptional Service Award for his work in radon training. He has previously been the leader of two review committees that calculated EPA's radon reduction research which included houses and big public buildings. Today, as a chair of the WHO Radon Prevention and Mitigation Group, he is in charge of developing guidance for policies and programmes in almost 200 US states.
The ground gas conference takes place 18 November in London. It will concentrate on guidance, developments and case studies on how to tackle ground gas.
